Amia Yokoyama (BA ’10)

The Ungrounding (Video Still), 2014

The Ungrounding was conceived and shot in the Mojave desert whilst dreaming of infinity pools and future configurations of life. Through animation and experimental filmmaking techniques, Amia creates a decodified, futuristic landscape where traditional concepts of “body” and “place” are dissolved, giving way to a more viscous exploration of reality. The figurative images in this work are not any specific forms from this world, but are shape-shifting forms of the artist’s own expression. The Ungrounding ushers the viewer into another world full of synthesized modalities as a way to explore the nexus of existence within a ever-changing universe.
